RC 630L | Group Work Lab | 1 - |
Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces) Group Lab |
Catalog Description: Catalog Description: The group counseling lab, to be taken concurrently with Group Work (RC 630) offers students an opportunity to experience group theories, observe techniques, and enter into self-introspection in a group setting. All discussion and personal sharing will be kept strictly confidential within the group. |
Course Goal and Objectives: The student will: a) Observe professional counselor at work in a non-lecture setting; b) Complete ten hours of counseling experiences; c) Participate in discussion of observations and experiences in a confidential setting; and d) Reflect on observations and personal development during this experience. |
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): Counselor education programs typically require outside group counseling experiences for counselors-in-training. This change will allow a clear separation of experiences between class lecture and personal experience, and will assure a similar experience for all counselors-in-training. In addition, CORE (the RCE accrediting board) requires both group theory as well as experience as part of the RCE curriculum. |
Faculty and facilities needed: Additional instruction will be needed but can be arranged through Division of Extended Programs. |
Brief Course outline: Please see attached syllabus. |
