Current Course Description:
Psy 298 Introduction to the Psychology Major: Careers and Opportunities 2 hours Introduces students to the psychology major and explores career opportunities and graduate school.

New Course Description:
Psy 300 Introduction to the Psychology Major: Careers and Opportunities 4 hours Introduces students to the psychology major and explores career opportunities and graduate school. Professional and career development theory will be reviewed. Students are encouraged to apply class material to personal decision making.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The course is being changed to 4 hours to allow time for delivery of new content areas of career theory and exploration, as well as increased exploration of topics already included in the course. Furthermore, having the elective as 4 credits will make it simpler for students to complete their 20 credits psychology electives without having to ¿make-up¿ the two credits (given that most psychology course offerings are 4 credits). Additionally, changing the course to upper division will allow more transfer students to enroll. Currently, some transfer students do not enroll because they have reached the department¿s limit on lower division psychology credits. Given that the course is designed to orient new and transfer students to psychology, it was important to have it upper division. Therefore, increasing the credits and offering the course as upper division will allow the course to reach more students.
Students/Program affected:
Psychology students and transfer study intending to be psychology majors.
