Current Course Description:
Examines the psychological underpinnings of leadership In organizations from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Students will examine the myriad of theoretical approaches to understanding leadership including their strengths and weaknesses in aiding our understanding of effective (and ineffective) leadership. Course activities include a significant student research project, in-class group projects analyzing case studies, and developing individual leadership portfolios. Prerequisites: PSY 201 and 202 or equivalent. PSY 334 recommended

New Course Description:
Provides a basic introduction to leadership by focusing on what it means to be a good leader. Emphasis in the course is on the practice of leadership. The course examines topics such as: the nature of leadership, recognizing leadership traits, developing leadership skills, creating a vision, setting the tone, listening to out-group members, handling conflict, overcoming obstacles, and addressing ethics in leadership. Attention will be given to helping students to understand and improve their own leadership performance. Course activities may include a service learning component with a community organization, analyzing case studies, and developing individual leadership portfolios. Prerequisites: PSY 201 and 202 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. PSY 334 recommended

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
To provide a more accurate course description and clarification for students. Adjustment to the prerequisites allows greater access to non-major and minor students.

Primarily Psychology Majors and to a lesser degree Psychology Minors.
