Current Course Description: Selected topics in the science of microbiology with an emphasis on microbial structures and physiology as they impact diversity and ecology, biotechnology, and diseases (bacterial, viral, and protozoal). Involved lab component represents nearly half course grade. Prerequisites: BI 211, 212, 213, CH 221, 222, 223. BI 311 and BI 313 strongly recommended ¿ offered fall and winter terms

New Course Description: Selected topics in the science of microbiology with an emphasis on microbial structures and physiology as they impact diversity and ecology, biotechnology, and diseases (bacterial, viral, and protozoal). Involved lab component represents nearly half course grade. Prerequisites: BI 211, 212, 213, CH 221, 222, 223. BI 311 and BI 312 strongly recommended ¿ offered winter and spring terms

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): This required lab-based course, currently taught during fall and winter terms, will be moved to winter and spring terms in order to better accommodate teaching and facilities constraints associated with concurrently teaching Bi 318 (Microbiology for the Health Sciences). The change in the Cell Biology course number, which is a ¿strongly recommended¿ class for this course, will also be noted.

Students/Program affected: While Bi 331 affects the following programs, these changes will not impact course content, contact hours, or number of offerings per academic year.
