New Course Description:
CS 101 Computers and Society (3) This course provides an introduction to the computer¿s role in society. The student will become familiar with current computer terminology and will use applications software, including a word processor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
The requested change is to remove the co-requisite for CS 101L. It used to be the case that a zero credit lab, CS 101L, was offered as a separate CRN which students were required to take. For at least the last 3 years the lab has been integrated into the course itself. As a result we have not offered CS 101L for some time. This has been a positive move and we would like to make it permanent by removing the co-requisite requirement.
Students/Program affected:
The course content remains unaffected and students register for the same number of credits as when CS 101L was offered. Students will avoid the confusion of not being able to find CS 101L when registering for CS 101. This course is a potential component in the BA additional graduation requirements, listed under Math and CS. The standing requirements are for courses "CS 101 or above". There is no language that specifically mentions or identifies CS 101L anywhere in the current course catalog except the course description above. The removal of this co-requisite should therefore not have any affect on other programs or degree requirements.
