Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces)
Intro.: Eastern

Current Course Description:
An introduction to the major religions of the Far East: Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism and the Buddhism of India, Tibet and Japan (Zen).

New Course Description:
An introduction to the major religions of the Far East: Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism and the Buddhism of India, Tibet and Japan (Zen). This course is comparative and taught from a broad historical and sociological perspective, and does not endorse any particular faith tradition.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Clarification of the comparative and non-doctrinaire nature of religious studies courses as taught in liberal arts universities. The new language replaces the church/state separation language removed from the catalog description for legal reasons. It is offered not only to give students a clearer understanding of the nature of the course, but also to help guide and justify course substitution decisions.
Students/Program affected:
