Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): This is a technical change for convenience in record keeping. At present, mathematics majors take MTH 403 twice at 2 credits each to complete the senior project required in the mathematics major. When they take it the second time, as we understand it, the grades and credit must be entered manually. We propose splitting the senior project into MTH 403 Senior Project I (2 cr) and MTH 404 Senior Project II (2 cr) so that grades and credit for the second quarter of the senior project will no longer need to be entered manually. The manual entry, by the way, sometimes caused a delay in recording grades. The majors who monitor their degree progress sometimes get stressed when they don't see the second quarter of the senior project recorded right away. MTH 404 as presently described will be absorbed into MTH 409 in an accompanying proposal. Note: The credit hours in the catalog for MTH 404 are currently listed as 1-9. The online form does not have provision for entering that information above. |
