Catalog Description: An introduction to Musical Theatre performance with emphasis on Musical Theatre acting techniques, score reading, and text analysis. |
Course Goal and Objectives: At the end of this course, students will: 1)Understand the basic differences between acting in non-musical and musical theatre. 2)Be able to apply text analysis techniques to a musical script 3)Be proficient in analyzing a song in terms of acting beats, rhythm, dynamics, etc. 4)Apply all of the above through in-class performance of musical scenes and songs. |
Justification for adding the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): The course will be part of a new emphasis area (if approved) in Musical Theatre within the existing Theatre B.A./B.S. degree. |
