Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces)
USMinLt:[topic]

Current Course Description:
An examination of minority literature through the study of a specific minority or ethnic literature, such as Afro/American, Chicano/a, etc. Specific focus will be identified in each year¿s schedule of classes. May be taken twice if content is not repeated. Prerequisite: WR 135 (or equivalent)

New Course Description:
A broad examination of the literature of minority or ethnic groups in the U.S., such as African-American, Chicano, etc. Specific focus will be identified in schedule of classes. May be taken twice if content is not repeated. Pre-requisite: Eng 218 or consent of instructor.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
Clarify the U.S. focus and the broader coverage (as contrasted with new 400-level course which will offer more depth and focus). Impetus arose from examining and updating the high school teaching major and a close look at past course offerings. The course is currently approved as a permanent "D" and we desire to continue that designation based on the course content parameters.
Students/Program affected:
English major, literature minor, Language Arts teaching major
