Abbreviation for Class Schedule(20 spaces) Instrumental Cond |
Current Course Description: Techniques of conducting, vocal and instrumental, including analysis of compositions. The class serves as a laboratory for live conducting experiences. Prereq: MUS 213 or consent of instructor. |
New Course Description: Techniques of conducting, including analysis of compositions conducted. The class serves as a laboratory for live conducting experiences. Prereq: MUS 213 or consent of instructor. |
Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.): The conducting sequence currently includes three terms: Basic, Instrumental, Choral. This model addresses conducting in the context of traditional instrumental and choral ensembles, but fails to address conducting ensembles that include rhythm sections and improvisation. The new sequence will include a section in American Vernacular Conducting, which will rectify this weakness. The new sequence, then will be: Instrumental, Choral, American Vernacular. MUS 320 (now retitled "Instrumental Conducting") will remain the prereq for the other two terms, either or both of which may be taken to satisfy degree requirements. |
