Current Course Description:
In this advanced course, students will examine the theory, practice, application, and evaluation of consecutive interpretation (CI) and simultaneous interpretation (SI) between signed and spoken languages, in general, and, specifically, between ASL and English. DC-S supervision will be applied to CI tasks and performances.

New Course Description:
In this course, students will practice and apply the principles of interpretation/translation to interpersonal communication via the demand control schema constructs. Students will incorporate the practicum observations, supervision sessions (case conferencing) and hands-up practice to enhance students' skills in decision-making around meaning transfer, ethical dilemmas, and interpersonal communication.

Justification for changing the course (e.g. alignment with other institutions, program revision, etc.):
As we continue to monitor the opportunities for graduate level education for interpreters, we have found that there are no graduate programs in teaching interpreting in the entire nation. Yet, there is sufficient need for an increase in the quality and quantity of interpreter educators, nationally, to warrant an MA program in this area. We also continued interviewed experts in the field of interpreting and determined that focusing our efforts on one program where the need is most prevalent and lowering the number of credits from the original proposal would be manageable and sustainable.
Students/Program affected:
MA in Interpreting Studies with an Emphasis in Teaching Interpreting
