I have seen a few tasks like this. Essentially 
when the  user clicks on the text field the 
blinking cursor is not visable and so they assume 
that they cannot type into it, I called and left 
her a voicmail asking her to try to type into the 
box even if she does not see the blinking cursor.

It happens when she replies or creates a new 
email. The main message area is the only area 
that she is having issues with.
