Ambre,

I came over and checked the other machine in the
room. Sorry for the confusion. It booted up fine
and ran with no problems. I was able to log in and
use the machine normally without any problems. One
thing I noted is that the Optiplex is sitting
right next to the heating vent in the back of the
room. It would be my guess that the problems that
were occuring were related to this heat and that
the system is now functioning fine because it has
been turned off for a long period and had time to
cool down. If you'd like us to move the system to
the other side of the desk or another location
please call 88925 and let us know. We'd be happy
to come over and do that for you.

If you have any questions about this at all please
feel free to call the helpdesk at 88925 or email
ucshelpdesk@wou.edu

Thank you,

Mike Orr

There are two computers at this desk. one is an
optiplex on top of the desk with the WOU number
listed in the ticket. The other is a 4600 with WoU
number 20010774[Edit Inv] which is under the desk and
doesn't appear to be on the network.

I booted up both machines and let them run for
about ten minutes. I was able to log into the
Optiplex without any problems and neither machine
crashed or rebooted. The optiplex is located
directly next to the heating vent in the back of
the room.

It is my belief that the rebooting the system was
demonstrating yesterday was a heat related problem
and that unless the machine is left on for long
periods of time this shouldn't be a problem in the
future. They may wish to call us to move the unit.
Ambre wasn't in so i didn't want to just go ahead
and do it without go ahead.

Michael,

I was not the one that put in the request for my
computer. The computer you should have looked at
was the other one in the room. I am sorry for the
confusion. My student worker Ermie called in the
request for the computer he uses yesterday. He is
not going to be here until tomorrow so I can have
him call and reopen the ticket for then if possible.

Thank you,
Ambre

Ambre,

I came by and looked at the machine today while
you were out. It was running fine while I was
there and I was able to reboot it several times
without any problems. I also stayed logged in for
about 10 minutes and checked network drives,
surfed the web, etc, with no problems occurring.

One thing I did notice was that with the machines
in the office on and the door closed your office
was very warm when I was let into it. The chassis
of the computer was also fairly warm. It may be a
good idea to shut down your computer if you're
going to be out of the office for any significant
period of time while you have the heater on.

I'm going to close the ticket for now since it
looks like your computer has resumed normal
operation. If it starts to act up again please
call us at 88925 and we can reopen the ticket for
you. Again, the ticket number is 18985.

Thank you,

Mike Orr

She was out, but the receptionist let me into her
office. They keep the heat on in her office when
she's gone and close the door. This causes the
office to become extremely warm. The computer
itself also felt somewhat hot.

It is currently running fine. I was able to reboot
several times with no problem, stay logged in,
check my network drives, web surf, etc.

This MAY be a heat issue so I'm going to email the
user saying I'm closing the ticket, but I'll give
her the ticket number and ask her to call and
reopen it if anything like this happens in the
near future.

user guesses it's not a heat issue as the
computer doesn't seem hot. The computer just
shut off. When user turned on the computer and
turned it back on, Windows logo came up, and then
the computer restarted itself, starting a loop of
restarts.
