the database file, or I will call it semi-database
file, she said she had stored it in several
locations, and none of it was there... from what I
could tell is that she was saving it on the
education I drive.

delivered the machine. she asked to keep the
ticket open since she "needed time to look" to
make sure every thing was working...

handed to you per Joe:
I got this machine ready to go. We found some bad
ram in it and have put some temp RAM in it.
Currently there is a little less than they had
but we will replace it when we get the good stuff
back from crucial. I also reghosted the machine
and installed all the updates for windows and
office. I also made sure banner is working and
ran the super bat. AD has also been updated to
reflect the new computer name. Admins have been
added. Printers should map via script.

Tiffany Smith called and agrees that ghosting it
is the best option.

She's got all her windows and office updates
installed, the machine is set to system managed
pagefile, it has 1.25GB of memory etc. No idea why
this is running slowly on Access. It may be in our
best interest to just reghost this thing.

I remoted in and verified. System is a P4 running
at 2.8GHz with 1.25GB of ram.

I called her and she is having problems with her
computer running so slow that it takes a few
minutes for access to be usable after it is
opened. One option may be to ghost it and that
could help with speed. She has 1.25 GB of RAM so
that is definitely not an issue. She will be here
until 12 and then back around 2 till 5 today.

Vicky called back. Access is misbehaving.

88472, ask for Vicky.

So Vicky couldn't figure out when the file wasn't
corrupted. She said that even if we could roll it
back, she would have to verify everything again
anyway so she said she would just start over. I
told her that she should backup the files in
different folders and to do this often. She also
said that she could save it onto a flash drive
every now and then too. This is the best we can do
short of getting her a new computer. I'm closing
the ticket but leaving it flagged in case it
happens again soon.

I went over and did an office repair. I also
answered a few questions they had and checked the
memory allocation and checked to see if any
language packs are installed (they weren't). The
student that uses the file will be in at 8:00AM
on Thursday. Joe asked that I assign this to you
to get a restore date.

Kelly called back to check the status of this.
She said it started being really slow this
morning. It has been acting up on and off for
about a year, but hasn't been really bad until
about a month ago.

The corrupted database can be rolled back,
according to Joe. Someone needs to call her and
find out when it wasn't corrupted and then let Joe
know so that he can restore that old version.

with the email you sent to her (Viki Myers 88471)
and would like you to call her when you have a
chance. THanks

I sent her an email telling her that I cleaned her
computer up and I sent her the "solution" I found
on exchange. I tried a few of the steps it listed,
but it did nothing. I don't think I can fix a
corruption after it has been copied and moved so
much, but I could be wrong.

NOTE: This ticket is actually for Vicky Myers.

I'm not working again until Monday but the file
that she sent me will be in the I: drive under
sgregor and the web address to the "fix" is
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS_Access/Q_21619233.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+access+charact+chines+microsoft

As far as I can tell, this is a result of
corruption and there is no way to know what is
causing the corruption. I have run ccleaner as
well as ad-aware on her computer (unrelated: I
also updated her computer name to ED20755VMEYERS0)

Hopefully these steps can help prevent future
corruption. The website can supposedly help with
files that are already corrupted although, looking
at the steps, I can't see how they would actually
help. I already tried the compact and repair and
that did nothing.
