Problem fixed. He was able to connect just fine
(he came into the office while I was working on
the machine) closing ticket.

He's missing a couple system updates including one
that is a "Mac OS X Combined Update" which is
probably what is required to make his network
connections work properly. I'm going to install
that and see if that takes care of the problem.

That should be the working H drive. Make sure he's
trying to connect to that and not:
