I've finished testing the Lacie drive that you
were having problems with. The physical hard
drives themselves are both working properly so the
problem is with either the ports or control board
on the enclosure. The solution to this problem is
to purchase a replacement enclosure(s). We would
recommend against purchasing a Lacie drive as
their failure rate seems to be too high for
sustained use. The best bet would be for you to
purchase two enclosures, one for each drive. The
ballpark cost for these enclosures seems to be
around fifty dollars for a single drive fire wire
hard drive enclosure.

If you wish to purchase these enclosures then you
can go to www.wou.edu/purchaserequest and enter a
purchase request. If you have any further
questions or concerns please feel free to contact
us at ucshelpdesk@wou.edu or call us at 88925. The
task number for this issue is 21051.

It looks like the ballpark figure for a firewire
enclosure is 50 dollars. I'll talk to them
tomorrow and see if they want to do that through
purchase request and get 2 for the drives.

All I'm finding on CDW-G are full hard drives no
straight enclosures that use firewire. Either
firewire 400 or 800 would be fine, but they aren't
listed. I'm going to check further.

Per Joe I'm going to quickly price out single
drive enclosures in the advent that they want to
take that option. The enclosure is the problem,
not the drives, so we can just get either a double
enclosure or two single enclosures that would fix
the issue. Going to price out and then I'll talk
to Scott and/or Sue.

Drive's not being recognized. So the problem is
definitely either in the controller board or the
ports. Most likely we should recommend that the
TRC should just buy a new enclosure (or two if
they want two drives). I'll ask Joe before I
contact them this afternoon.

I formatted both the hard drives in XP and they
worked just fine. I've reassembled the drive
casing and I'm going to try to format the drive on
a Mac and see if it will detect and work properly.
It looks like the problem is either the controller
board or the firewire ports.

Tried to search lacie's website by model number
and serial number. No go. Worst. Website. Ever.

We're going to need to call them for any further
info about this drive or what we can try.

I am stumped on this one. The last time I looked
at this we ended up ordering a new power brick
for the drive and it seemed to work. Apparently
since then the drive has "worked some days" and
not others. I have tried multiple cables. Is it
possible that the drive is just starting to fail?

Scott said that it's been looked at before and
it's been an issue for a couple of months. He
thinks it might be a cable issue because some days
it is recognized while other days it is not.

Hi,

Just a note that our external Lacie drive hooked
up to our G5 Mac (WOU#20031210) is still not
showing up. This is in the Technology Resource
Center, IT204.

Thanks,
Scott
