Step 5: Click on the purple button that says
"New..." located towards the left edge of the browser.
Step 6: Enter a Filter Name in the appropriate
text area. This can be anything; it is just a
descriptive title for the filter.
Step 7: Set the conditions for the filter in the
"For Incoming Messages" section. You can set
multiple conditions by pressing the purple "Add"
button next to the word "Condition." You can also
apply the filter to old messages by selecting a
range of dates with the "Do not include
messages..." checkboxes.
Step 8: Set where the filter will move the emails
to in the "Apply Message Actions" section. The
default maybe "Move message to the folder:
[Inbox]" and if setting a spam filter I suggest
selecting "Trash" from that drop-down menu.
Step 9: Press either of the purple "Save" buttons
on the right edge of the screen.

Your filter is now applied and any emails you
receive that meet its conditions will go to the
specified folder or alternate email address.

Lastly, if you experience any further problems
please email ucshelpdesk@wou.edu or call us at
503-838-8925. If you call regarding this same
issue please reference your service request number
22972.

Have a nice day,

Hi Cindy,

Before the Thanksgiving holiday you received a
strange email from a co-worker and sent it to us
at UCS. I requested, in person, that you send the
email to me so that I could look more closely at
the header info and help you set-up an email
filter to prevent these sorts of spam/phishing
emails from coming to your inbox. Since I've
received no email the following is instructions
and information about email filters.

Filters can throw emails into the trash, a
different folder, or forward to another email
address based on subject content, email addresses
the email was sent from, and other criteria. Some
mass emails that WOU sends out have subjects that
all start with the same thing, like "[All
Fac/Staff]" for example. Follow these steps to add
a filter to your email:

Step 1: Go to www.wou.edu/newmail and log in using
your email login and password.
Step 2: Click on "Options" which is just above
"Search" in the upper left area of the screen.
Step 3: Another menu-bar will display below
"Options" that says
"Global | Mail | Calendar | Address Book"
The word "Mail" should be selected (bold, black,
and with a blue box around it). If it is not,
please click on it.
Step 4: Third menu-bar is displayed and should say
"Personal Information | Settings | Layout |
Vacation | Mail Filters" Click on the last one,
"Mail Filters"

I have still received no email... When I'd seen
her in person and asked her to forward me the
email I told her I'd look at the headers of the
email and help her setup a filter. So, I guess she
doesn't want the filter?

Hi Cindy,

At the end of October you emailed University
Computing Service about a weird email that you had
received from a co-worker named Penelope. I think
that the email was a spam/phishing message. I
would like to view the header information of the
actual email to look at the source of it, so
please forward the email to me at asundkv@wou.edu
when you have a chance. You mentioned in the email
to UCS that you had placed the email in the trash,
so it may still be there. Also, you emailed UCS on
October 30th if that helps you track down the
email at all.

Thank you,
Audrey Sundkvist

Good morning-
I am forwarding this email to you, because
something funny happened with it. I had sent an
email with an attachment to Penelope here on
campus a couple weeks ago. When I opening this
email this morning, the screen opened with the
attachement from the email I had sent but it is
obviously not from Penelope. I put this email in
my trash, but computing services suggested that I
forward this to you. If you have any questions -
or if there's anything I need to do, please feel
free to contact me.
Thanks,
Cindy
