The "grinding" noise is merely a vibrating noise.
 Sounds like a plastic gear might be vibrating
slightly. There really doesn't appear to be a
problem.  I told them to keep an eye on it and if
it gets worse or won't pull paper, we will further
troubleshoot.

When the printer is pulling paper from tray to 
print, it makes a weird grinding noise. 

Student worker called this in and said they just 
noticed it, its printing everything fine, but 
makes that loud noise.
