If she hasn't responded by now she isn't. I'm
making an admin decision here and closing this
task.

****This is an email****

Marjory,

Our spam system scans the message for Spam
Signatures and gives the message "points" for each
hit. Then it calculates the points and gives each
message a probability of the message being spam.
Currently if the message is given a 30% chance of
being spam it quarantines the messages. ( I'm not
100% sure on the 30%, but its close to that ) We
started out at 85%.

We're trying to balance the spam in user's inboxes
and getting false positives, where people are
having to check their quarantine and release
messages. We don't have an issue with that,
however if we tighten things up too much then
you'll have false positives as an issue instead of
the issue of spam. ( or in addition because we'll
never get rid of all spam )

You could contact the service request desk to have
a tech come out and give you some help setting up
filters so you could do some spam filtering of
your own.

If you use Outlook for email, there is a free
plugin I have used in the past that is a "bayesian
filter" meaning that it learns as it goes, and is
a pretty effective tool in fighting spam.

She is recieving spam email, that is composed of
short messages composed of a few words, which
don't make any sense (she read a couple to me,
they are actual words, but gibberish). They have
no attachments and are from different emails
adresses, but all from normal sounding names.
They seem to come in waves, and have been coming
since December, though they have increased in
number recently. She would like us to email her
as quickly as possible about this issue, she
won't be back on campus until next Tuesday.
