Finale works. I have the temp machine he used with
his user info on it incase he missing anything.
The W# on it is 20040085[Edit Inv] and it's under my desk at
the moment. Closing the task though. I won't clean

As a "shot in the dark" I tried playing one of the
music files in Finale while logged into the
machine as a different account that WOUUser. The
file played! This was not the case when the issue
original manifested itself before all of the
hassle about temporary machines, but I was glad
that it was the case now. I created a second
account on the machine named WOUUser2 and moved
all of your data to it via copy and paste. It's a
bit of an old-school method, but it is reliable. I
was able to get your Safari stuff to move over,
but Mac Mail needs re-setup and Firefox would not
copy properly. If you really need your Firefox
bookmarks let me know. I will try to extract them
from the temporary machine you had. As for Mac
Mail: it may appear to be working, but it's not
fully setup. In Preferences, under the Accounts
section, the password is blank (since I didn't
know it). It may work after adding that. It may
not. Mail programs can be finicky. You can access
your mail in the meantime on the web at
http://www.wou.edu/newmail. Will you be on campus
Friday at all? If so I'd like to arrange a time to
meet with you for the Mac Mail setup and to make
sure everything is working on your Mac. I am
available Friday anytime from 8am-3:30pm.

Thank you,

Audrey Sundkvist

I am going to have to setup the machine from
scratch and migrate any data you have on the hard
disk via a thumbdrive. will try to do all this
this morning before 11am (I have class then).

Hi Audrey,
Migration finished, but Finale crashed on the
first try. What should we try next?

It's still not playing. I looked online for a
solution, but only found a lot of other people
with the same problem. I am going to try a fresh
installation on your actual machine, which was
wiped of everything that had been on it. So it may
not have the same issue. I will keep you updated
and get a machine with Finale on it to you as soon
as possible.

When you press the play button on a file in Finale
the program closes. A fresh installation of Finale
produced the same results.

Called and left a message. I have been successful
opening a Finale file from his desktop so I need
to meet with him in order to find out the actual
issue.

I also updated the priority as well. His classes
final grades depend on him teaching this lesson
this week.

His temp. computer crashed in the same way as his
previous one did when he was teaching a lesson and
opened Finally. He suspects that the program may
just need to be re-installed and is the cause of
this and the previous problem.

Hi Dr. Coker,

I wanted to go over what has been going on with
your Mac. I know you're wondering what has been
going on with your Mac and what has taken so long.
Last Wednesday I setup your machine to transfer
its documents, settings, and programs over to the
temporary machine you are using now, which takes a
few hours. I had an unexpected family emergency
occur that evening which occupied my Thursday and
Friday. There are many open service tickets that
require the attention of what few student
technicians we have available. I was able to set
up the temporary machine for you, finish the
migration, and install it in your office.

What happens now? You can use the machine we've
provided just as if it was your own machine.
Although it will make little difference for you as
a user I will be fixing the old machine. After it
is stable again I will remigrate your documents,
settings, and programs from the temporary machine
you have now to your real machine. I plan to do
the migration in your office however so that we
save time and you are not left wondering where
your Mac is for days.

I have notes here stating that you were concerned
about working on grades on your computer while it
was away from you. There is a way to save data so
that it is accessible anywhere on campus for you.
First you must save the data to your network
drive. From the Finder bar (at the top of your
screen when you've clicked on the desktop) go to
"Go" and then the last option listed, "Connect to
Server..." A box will pop-up. Enter the following
information as the "Server Address:"
smb://cougar/mydocuments, click "Connect," and
then enter your network credentials (cokerk for
the login and the same password as your email or
reset your password here). The file that opens up
is your space on the campus servers. It requires
your personal credentials to be accessed and is
accessible by any computer on campus. You can
connect to it on any Mac in that same way. To
connect to it on a Windows machine login using
your network credentials, go to the "start" menu,
select "My Computer," and then find drive listed
as MyDocuments(H:\), double click on it to open.
All of your data should be available to you. With
that information you should be able to safely save
your grades or any other data you would not wish
to lose to your personal space on the campus
servers. Otherwise your data could be lost to file
corruption, operating system faults, hardware, or
other unforeseeable issues.

If you have any other problems or issues in the
mean time you can call the help desk at extension
88925 and reference your service request number
25959 or just email me back.

Thank you,

Keller called in wondering when he would be
getting a computer back as his grades are all on
the one that was taken and he kind of pressed for
time. If he could be called and filled in with the
situation and time frame he would be grateful.

Hi Dr. Coker,

I came by your office and worked on your computer.
I updated it and was able to get Finale and
Firefox running (if it crashes tell it to Reopen).
I did not have time to get Safari working, because
I have to head to class. I will come by tomorrow
sometime and work more with Safari.

Thank you,
