****This is an email****
Hello Cathy & Jodie,

I spoke with Cathy on the phone and Paul Lambert
emailed Jodie: I have completed instructions on
how to access your department network drive for
both PC and Mac and attached them as a PDF to this
email. Jodie emailed the following questions,
which Paul responded to, but I want to touch on as
well for clarity.

   1. How do we access the shared server file?
The attached instructions should be exactly
what you're looking for.

   2. Can the file access be limited in some way?
(password, or other?) Although it may be unlikely
anyone else would stumble across it.
The only people who can access it are people
listed with HR as being apart of the "Art
Department." Dance/Theatre and Music each have
separate network shared drives, so other artsy
departments do not have access to your drive. If
someone's credentials are declined for access to
the shared drive please ave his/her supervisor
call the UCS Helpdesk at extension 88925
requesting that person be granted access to the
department shared drive.

   3. Can the files be protected somehow inside a
file? So that the images cannot be made smaller,
altered, etc.? Maybe that anyone can place images
inside the folder and contribute to the file bank,
but then the images become "read only", so that
they can be copied outside but not altered?
Yes, this can be done. Create the folders
you want restrictions on in the department's
shared drive and then email a list of what
specific restrictions you want to one of our UNIX
Administrators, dougherb@wou.edu.

   4. How much server space do we have to use for
this?
Paul's answer of "enough" is correct. We
monitor the size of the network servers and
regularly allocate more space to them as needed.

   5. Can I access my server space from home?
(I've been scanning images at home and would like
to share them, also do work from home
occasionally...others may have this question as well).
Yes. Paul's answer was correct for this as
well; visit
http://www.wou.edu/ucs/faq/remotedesktop.php for
help accessing the campus servers remotely. Using
a USB thumb drive or external hard drive is
another option.

I hope this answers all of your questions about
network shared drives and that the Art department
finds it to be a valuable resource. If you have
any problems please call the UCS Helpdesk at
extension 88925.

Have a nice day,

I made a PDF on how to access network drives and
sent the following email to her and Jodie Raborn.

She needs information for Jodie Raborn and
everyone in the department on how to store things
they scan so that everyone can access them. I told
Cathy I'd email her instructions on how to access
the department drive.

CH 105 Scanner Epson that they would like someone
to go over and help them scan some images.

They basically want someone who is knowledgeable
about using that specific scanner to show them
the ropes because a lot of faculty are going to
be needing to scan soon.
