Adam is having problems with the external jet 
direct parallel interface 
for network printing.

Adam is working on it right now and waiting on a 
call back from Shaun.

I have worked around this issue by going to a 
different work station when I need to print 
something. More often than not, this is to a PC, 
which results in my documents being reformatted 
due to differences in the versions of Office. 
Sometimes this a important and sometimes it is 
not. When it is, I have to leave the Division 
offices to find another Mac on campus. There are 
jobs I have to do that I have delayed because of 
this problem, but I am reaching a point in the 
term when I will have to seriously consider 
working somewhere other than my office in order 
to work effectively.


I don't doubt the good intentions of UCS staff, 
or that the unit is understaffed, but this task 
is, on the surface, relatively simple and relates 
to a core work function for office computers on 
campus. If the task is more complicated than it 
seems, that's fine, but I should be better 
informed as to the reasons for the delay, what is 
being done to bring this task to a close, and how 
long I can expect to wait.

****This is an email**** 1st Half:

 I am writing to express my dissatisfaction and 
frustration with apparent inaction on UCS task 
27883, which is to network my office iMac with 
the main printer in the Social Science office. I 
have been waiting for over a month now for this 
to be completed and it has not happened. I have 
been visited by two techs, both of whom 
encountered some problem related to the 
connection between the two machines, but I have 
not been informed as to the nature of that 
problem or how long I should expect to wait. I 
check in with the helpdesk every week, at which 
time I am usually assured that the task is being 
attended to, that it is high priority, and that 
someone will look into the delay and get back to 
me. However, I remain in the dark and without 
access to a printer from my office.

instructions that were sent out don't help him 
much
