I emailed him and he replied that he has
everything working now, and thanks for offering to
go over the terminal server environment with him.

Brian - this is a long task, but he wanted to talk
with someone more directly responsible for this
issue than me (a student).

The issue has been resolved, but he asked I have
my boss contact him.

Al was apologetic about the tone of his email.

As student told him to try logging in to "ts"
instead of "ts.wou.edu" when on campus. It allows
him to login. I also had him login with ts.wou.edu
and that worked too. He said that ts.wou.edu
doesn't work for him and he was surprised it
worked with me there.

He recommended that we change the FAQ
documentation at
http://www.wou.edu/ucs/faq/remotedesktop.php to
reflect that on campus you can use just ts instead
of ts.wou.edu

Also, he wanted to talk with someone more directly
responsible for this issue than me (a student).

Al,

If your most recent password reset does not reset
correctly the server can end up with cached
credentials of your new and previous passwords
causing errors like this. In my previous email I
was referring to this problem when I said the
server gets "out of sync." If you use
accountlookup to reset your password at home (or
any other internet connection) and then do not use
your network login for anything (logging into a
computer on campus, remoting into the TS, or email
for example) for 3-5 minutes the server will reset
and re-sync your network password. That should
correct the issue. Also, if you reset it at home
now you can wait the 5 minutes then use your own
computer to Remote Desktop to ts.wou.edu and try
the newly reset password to verify it works well
before class.

I do apologize for the inconvenience and stress
this issue has caused you. I had closed the task
October 23rd because on that day I was able to
access Dreamweaver through the Terminal Server
from the instructor's station PC in ITC 310.

Audrey,

What I have relayed to you is a paraphrased
version of the error message that I got. I
understand network rights and that it SHOULD work.
It does not. I will copy the error message
verbatim the next time I'm in the classroom.

Why would my password work correctly when I log in
to the instructor workstation and not work when I
try to log in to Remote Terminal Services? That
doesn't make sense. I will reset the password when
I am there on Wednesday. I will only reset it at
the end of the period, because I do not want to be
locked out of the network when I need to present
to my class.

If a member of IT support could stop by the ITC
building on Wednesday around 4:15, I could use the
help.

Understand one thing: This problem has impacted my
instruction negatively since the beginning of the
term. I have had to bring my laptop in each day I
lecture to present the application I am teaching
about. That is not acceptable.

Al,

There is no reason any faculty, staff, or students
would be denied access to the Terminal Service.
One thing that can happen is your password gets
out of sync with the server, and the only solution
for that is to reset it. Please try going through
accountlookup (http://www.wou.edu/accountlookup)
to reset your password, then waiting at least 3
minutes before logging in to anything that
requires a network password. After the 3 minute
wait please try using Remote Desktop to connect to
ts.wou.edu. Let me know if you experience any
further issues or errors after resetting your
password.

I think I've figured out the problem with Remote
Terminal Services on this computer.
I do not have access to Remote Terminal Services.

Could you change my rights and grant me access to
Remote Terminal Services on the instructor
computer in ITC 310?

worked fine. Portia is wrong. I sent an email to
Al... I guess I need to call Portia and let her
know too.

Portia Perkins replied the following:
Why was this service request marked closed?
The problem has not been corrected.
The instructor computer does not have access to
Dreamweaver.
It is not installed and Remote Desktop does not
work from the instructor computer

Hello Al,

I spent some time in ITC 310 looking at the
instructor's station. I made a few changes and
tested out the Remote Connection to ts.wou.edu. I
experienced no problems connecting via Remote
Desktop to ts.wou.edu and opening Dreamweaver 8
(other than perhaps slowness initially). You and
your students should be able to access the
terminal servers and Dreamweaver correctly now
without errors. If this is not the case please let
me know!

I went to ITC310 and worked on the instructor's
station. I did the following:
1. Installed and updated Sophos Anti-Virus
2. Deleted existing profiles
3. Updated the default profile with the correct My
Document's path (\\cougar\mydocuments), added
desktop icons for WOU Email, WOU TS, and others,
and set the web browsers to the correct settings.
4. Tested connecting with Remote Connection to
ts.wou.edu, and opening Dreamweaver.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. You
should be logging into MASH. I will check with the
Windows Admin. here to see what could be causing
that issue and get back to you. We apologize for
any inconvenience this may have caused.

From the instructor console I start remote
desktop, I choose MASH and click on Connect, a
dialog box comes up with a login and password. I
enter mine (I know it's correct). I get an error
message that says something like "To login to this
computer you must be granted the Allow login feature".
When I tried to login to ts.wou.edu, the error
message was something like: "The system could not
log you on. Check your userid and password".
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Al,

Can you by any more specific about the problem
with remote desktop issue you were experiencing?
Were you trying to connect from: on campus or at
home; Were you entirely unable to connect to
ts.wou.edu or were you unable to open Dreamweaver?
What sort of error messages did you receive?

We hope to get this working as soon as possible.
Thank you for the help,

Hi Al,

We don't have a license for the instructor's
station in ITC 310 to have Macromedia Dreamweaver
8. However, Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 is available
via the terminal server. You can access that by
opening "Remote Desktop Services," which is found
in All Programs-->Accessories and connecting to
"ts.wou.edu" as the "Computer." This is the best
way for you to use Macromedia Dreamweaver 8, and
the students can follow the same steps to connect
to the terminal servers from home for homework.

As for file compression: Windows XP has built in
compress and zip capabilities. Navigate to where a
file is stored, right-click on it's icon, choose
"Send to" and then "Compressed (zipped) Folder." A
.zip file will be created in the same folder the
file is stored in and named the same thing as the
file.

If you have further problems with this you can
contact the service request desk at extension
88925 (please reference your service request
number 28149 if you choose to call) or just email
me back.

Thank you,

I cannot find any Macromedia licensing for ITC 310
or any ITC instructor station. Dreamweaver 8 is
the version on the terminal server though.

They can right-click a file and "Send to" zip format.

----- Original Message -----
From Al Lake

To Portia Perkins
Subject ITC 310

Would you put in a ticket for computer services
to install a complete copy of Macromedia 8 on the
instructor computer in ITC 310? I thought there
was a copy in there and found out tonight that
there is not.

Would you also ask them to install a compression
program, something like WinZip on all of the
computers in that room?

Thanks.
