Hi Don,

It is recommended you map your computer's My
Documents drive to H:\ instead of
\\cougar\mydocuments because I recently learned
they are changing the individual server space to
another server, which will mean little to you
unless your My Documents is pointing to the wrong
place! The H:\ drove should map corectly
regardless of which server because that
information is set by the network when you login.
Just follow the original instructions I sent only
put in "H:\" instead of "\\cougar\mydocuments."

I am closing the task on my end, but you're
welcome to ask for assistance if necessary.

Audrey
Thanks. Looks easy, but it will be a couple
of days before I have time to focus on it and see
how it works -- I'll probably have questions.
Right click? My 1991 Apple doesn't have right
click. (I'm joking, sort of.)

Hi Don,

You've definitely mastered the concept here! The
attached instructions walk you through mapping
your computer's default My Document's folder to
the server folder. This change only affects your
computer, so on other computers you need to
navigate to your server space via the My Computers
menu described in my previous email. Many Smart
Classroom stations are set for the My Documents
icon to map to the server like this already, but
it's not a 100% guarantee. Once you follow the
attached instructions your Ctrl+S should save to
your server space MyDocuments.

I know this is a little confusing since there are
a few things called My Documents, but I tried to
be as specific as possible in the attached
instructions. If you need any assistance let me know.

Audrey:
Thank you for your email. It's well written
and easy to understand -- as far as it goes. But
I immeadiatly have to start making assumptions.

I click My Documents and I click H-Drive and I get
different lists -- I assume one is on my computer
drive and one (H-drive?) is on the network. But
my recent documents has stuff from both?? When I
click save where do things go? I figured out the
"Save As" routine for moving something from "My
Documents" to "H-Drive" but how am I going to
remember that? (In my experience Save As is
something you use to put a different name on a
document.)

What I need is aSIMPLE method to prepare a
document on one computer (e.g. my office), save it
(hit Ctl-S), and go to another room (e.g. a
classroom) and open "My Documents" and find the
document there.

Hello Don,

I am contacting you with information regarding
your server space on the campus servers. The
attached document should provide you with enough
information to access your personal and shared
space on the servers. If you have any questions or
problems you can contact the Service Request Desk
at extension 88925 and reference your Service
Request number 30115 or you can just email me back
directly.

Also, I've CC'd this to Karon Brown so she can
share this information with other faculty. Karon
seems to be a good resource for your department on
these sorts of issues. This pdf I created has a
lot of information that could be helpful to
everyone in the department.

I just talked to Karen Brow. It seems that we just
need to teach Don how to save to his H: drive.
Make sure that My Documents is pointing correctly
and that it is the default location to save files.

Computer saves files to C drive instead of H
drive. Wants files copied to H drive. Also wants
files to be saved by default to both C and H.
Call Karen Brown 8-8265 for questions or anything
else.
