I was able to edit/play .mov files in Final Cut
Pro on the specified machine and the one beside it
as JenkinsD without any problems and use the DVD
drive. It did not play the .vob files on the DVD
I'd brought because they were copyrighted material.

Sheena,

I was able to open videos and edit them without
problems on that machine and the one beside it in
ITC104. You need to arrange to have your advisor
for the project/thesis troubleshoot the issue
with you further, because the program itself is
functioning normally in that lab.

hi there. the room I was in was on the bottom
level of ITC. it was next to where a computing
work room was (to go to for assistance). there is
also a door that leads out to the main part of
campus (if facing the building to the right of the
stairs there is a door down to the side) not sure
what # the room was, but I know there are classes
held in there and its only free on fridays. and
its across from a bathroom.
it was not the room in APSC 101.

Hi Sheena,

There is a Mac lab in ITC001 (although it is
sometimes used by classes) and some Macs in the
APSC101 lab. I will look at the DVD drives of the
Macs in ITC104. There are only a few Macs over
there so I should be able to determine the issue.
It's likely the Mac is wanting to install a codec
or update for the DVD drive and therefore asking
you for administrator rights.

HI thanks for a response. the dvd I was trying to
play was from last years and previous years of the
Spring Dance Concerts that I received from the
dance dept. I am trying to work on my Sr. Thesis,
which is a promotional video for the dance dept. I
was in ITC, bottom floor in room 104 (I think). I
am not in the lab now, so I do know know which
computer it was i.e. the number you are requesting.

It was a computer in the middle of the room. next
time I am in there, I can find the number. It was
a mac computer but did not have a silver box. the
dvd/cd drive was the same you would find on a PC.

my problem is, if I cant get it to play on that
computer, hopefully it will play on another
because I need to use the footage for my project.
if it does not work, how do you purpose I play the
dvd to possibly get footage off of it? every time
I tried to play the dvd disc a screen would pop up
saying I need to set the region time code, and the
only way to do so, was having an administration ID
name and password.

is there any other way to take footage from the
dance dvd (that is not copyrighted) to load onto a
computer to be used for my SR. Thesis?

if you could please give me a call, at
503.319.6041 it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Sheena

Hi Sheena,

I am contacting you about a Service Request we
have from you that regards playing a DVD on
campus. We have very little information about the
issue you experience however. Please let me know
the following so I can attempt to address the issue:

    * Where on campus did you attempt to play the
DVD? Every WOU computer has a sticker on it with
"WOU#..." and then 8 digits. Those digits allow us
to identify it in our inventory system and
locate/troubleshoot it efficiently. Please let me
know the WOU# of the computer that ave you the
problem if possible. I not, I do need the location
of the computer at the least.
    * Were you using a computer or a thin client?
Thin clients are small silver boxes that usually
sit right next to the monitor. If you were using a
computer was it a Mac or a Dell? If you were on a
thin client we need to know which Terminal Server
you were on, because there are several. You can
tell which Terminal Server you are on by hovering
over the 4 internet connectivity icons in the
right side of the system tray.
    * What file format is the movie? The file
should end with a .wmv or something denoting what
type of file it is. There are dozens (possibly
hundreds or thousands) of different video formats,
and so we have to install something called codecs
to get them to play on the computers.

Thank you for your help troubleshooting this
issue. Your answers to those questions are vital
to resolving this issue conclusively.

she gets a message when she is trying to open a
dvd. she gets a message saying the dry region
needs to be changed and she cannot do this
because she needs administration rights.

it is for her senior thesis.
it is a dvd from the spring dance concert she is
trying to open up.
