You need to open the file, save it to a new name,
and contact the unix folks at unix@wou.edu to
delete the "locked" file.

Sometimes when a connection is lost to the network
server hosting the file shares while a file is
open can result in the file appearing to open when
it actually is not.

Last term and the start of this term we have been
migrating network server storage to new servers
that don't have this problem.

says an excel document is locked. says she exited 
the program then remembered she had to change 
something in the document and it is telling her 
it is locked. 

message:
"the file in use invoicesocial.xls is locked for 
editing"
it gives her the option to open as a read only 
file.

says she has tried restarting the machine but 
stil is locked. 

the PC is located in RM 218
