Emailed Beth on 5/5/09:

Hi Beth,

We were just following up on your service request
(#31887) that was in regards to a "file being
locked". We wanted to make sure everything was
working okay for you now.

If not, or we can help, just let us know.

Thanks!

****This is an email****

You'll need to save your file to a new file name,
then let the Unix team at unix@wou.edu know the
path to the file so they can delete it, then you
rename your file to its original file name.

Sometimes when an office document or spreadsheet
is open, and there is a network connectivity
issue, the server that the file is on (in this
case Cougar) doesn't properly flag the file so
office knows it isn't open.

The newer storage systems being built by the Unix
team have an updated version of the software that
doesn't react this way.

no one can access the file names "student
employee need list.xls"
yesterday the computers were freezing up for a
few minutes, than came back, but since then that
file she can not access.
says "file in use" box, and options are
to "receive notification when available"
