Yesterday we had a technician from UCS who went 
over to do a local single user install of a SPSS 
17 license.  He was instructed to install SPSS- 
PASW Statistics Base and Custom Tables for your 
desktop station.  He came back stating you did 
not want him installing it from the network and 
thought you should be given the disk media in 
which to install the software.  You also called 
the Service request desk and requested a "backup 
disk copy" of the software. 

UCS keeps a Library of all software media on 
campus to be able to support the campus community 
as efficiently as possible.  Our department is 
responsible for all software and licensing at WOU 
and making sure that we are staying in compliance 
for software usage on campus.   Besides keeping a 
hard copy of the disk media on file over in our 
office  we also keep a network storage location 
with backup copies of the disk media from which 
our technicians can run installs from across our 
campus network.  Even though the technician was 
accessing the license via a network drive does 
not mean it will not be a "local" install on your 
workstations hard drive.   You will have access 
to SPSS via your desktop without having to go to 
the "terminal server" or a network drive.  All 
the documentation for SPSS is in electronic 
format and the technician can provide you with 
the electronic documentation when he does the 
install.  I will be sending the technician back 
out to perform the software installation on 
service request #33300.

We do not give the original installation or back 
up copies out for software.  We buy the majority 
of campus software in a volume license mode and 
often receive one set of media for multiple 
licenses.  If you need re installation or support 
for your station then you can contact UCS for
