This is now fixed. The problem ended up being a
bad usb cable between the computer and the monitor.

talk to Bill about replacing the computer, because
its student tech funded.

Teresa,
I just checked those ports yesterday. The USB
port does not recognize some USB devices, and
this is a problem when someone is expecting to be
able to use it. Most thumb drives cannot be read
by the port. If you take that computer away to
fix it, be sure the replacement has the audience
response software downloaded from Turning
Technologies, so that I can use it during my
class presentations. It is free, and takes
little time to download. Find Turning
Technologies from the google search line, and
proceed to downloads.

Thanks for checking in. I believe this issue has
been outstanding for several months.
Periodically someone asks if it is still in need
of attention. I have always answered that it is
a problem that I wish would be rectified.
Karen.

Yes, this computer still does not reliably read
flash drives: it can read some, but not others.
Mine is not one of them. I use audience response
software installed on this computer with a usb
receiver that works fine in the usb ports, but
only some flash drives can be used on that
computer. If you will need to take that computer
out of there for repair, please be sure that the
replacement machine has the Turning Technologies
(audience response) software downloaded to the
machine: it is a free download, but must be done
by someone with administator priviliges for the
computer, which I do not have for the classroom
machine.

I don't recall if the laptop cord issue has been
resolved.

Thanks for the check-in. Karen Brown

I sent her an email seeing if this was still a
problem. So far we have put a new motherboard in
the computer and also have re-imaged it. If they
are still having problems with it we may have to
look at replacing it.

The USB port on this computer does not recognize
most flash drives. This still needs to be taken
care of in some manner. I know Nathan attempted
to fix it several months ago, but the issue proved
problematic.

hi karen - sending this to the UCS help desk is
like a call for help stranded by yourself at the
bottom of the Grand Canyon... I thought Nathan
was working on this problem? Contacting him as a
follow-up is going to yield the best results.

Thanks for tracking this, it seems like we need a
new instructor's workstation in NS101, period.

Hi,
We have noticed that the USB ports on the
instructor station in NS 101 (WOU # 20060487)
work for some devices and not for others. This
can be frustrating to those who have memory
sticks/thumb drives that the computer does not
recognize. Can the computer be fixed so that it
will recognize valid drives?
In addition, the computer used to have a cord to
attach a laptop. It now has ports on the front
of its desk, but those bringing laptops are not
accustomed to needing to bring a cord to
connect. Can we get a cord installed there so it
is available when we need it?
Thanks for your attention to this machine. The
room is generally available late in the afternoon
most days.
