Hi Jason,

We were just checking in with you to see if you
had a chance to receive an email from Richard in
our office regarding word document translator.
(#35921)

If you could maybe email us back and let us know
if this has been resolved or if not, maybe some
dates and times you might be available?

Thanks!

Hello,

This is Richard from University Computing Services. I am e-
mailing you about a service request that you called in asking for
us to help installing the Microsoft Office compatibility pack. I
had a couple questions for you about this request to see how we
can best deal with this.

The first of these questions is what kind of a computer are you
working on? The WOU number we have listed for this task is tied
to an iMac but the notes say that you are using a laptop. Also it
would be helpful to know where the computer in question is. If
it is on campus then we can stop by and gice you admin rights
any time. If, on the other hand, you have the computer with you
at home then we will need to set up a time for you to bring it in
or try to set up a remote session to help you out.

Thank you for your time,
Richard Kavanagh

Hey this is Jordan with the UCS. I'm emailing in
regards to your service request for the Office
conversion software. I was wondering when you
would be on campus this week? Just shoot me an
email back with maybe a couple of times when you
will be here on campus and one of the techs can be
over there to take a look at it! Thank you for
your time!

Hi Teresa,

This Jason Palmer in the music department, office
106.

We could still use a translator to allow newer
Microsoft office documents to be read on our
Mac...which has Word 2004. I'd be perfectly
happy to install it myself, but I obviously don't
have administrator access. Also, I cannot
receive email at my WOU account, as it seems to
not be receiving ANY new emails. (I just thought
that nobody was sending me mail!).

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

We were just checking in to see if we can still
be of assistance with the word
document "translator". We believe Brian Berkley
emailed you some instructions and we were just
checking to see if this was a help (#35921). If
not, just let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Thanks!

Jason,

I cannot give out the administrative password to
machines, as we use the same one for all computers
on campus.

If you connect to Remote Desktop, you can use the
terminal servers to open that word document until
you return to campus and we can get the
compatibility pack for Office installed.

If you need assistance connecting to remote
desktop, here are some instructions:

Go to Start, Run and type: mstsc.exe
Hit enter on your keyboard, or click OK.

type ts.wou.edu in the computer field

Click connect.

You'll get a Log On to Windows box with either 2
lines or 3 lines that you can enter information into.

The 3 lines from top to bottom are:
User name:
Password:
Log on to:

If you see 2 lines, click the options button to
show the 3rd line.

In the first line type your login name, which is
palmerj
In the 2nd line type your password, the same one
you use for email.
The 3rd line is the most important. It might say
MASH or a name like TS10 (there are 9 terminal
servers: ts1, ts5, ts6, ts7, ts8, ts10, ts11,
ts12, ts13). It is important that you select MASH.

Your account is on MASH, and you can login to
MASH. You do not have an account on the server.

MASH is a directory service, much like a phone
book. The servers have accounts on MASH, you have
an account on MASH, this is what allows you to use
your MASH account to authenticate to the servers,
as long as you tell it where it can find your
credentials, thats why you tell it to log on to MASH.

If you have problems, please let me know.

document. But the computer says it is to new of a
format. He tried to install a
converter/translator, and it asked for
administrative access. He needs this installed
for further use.
