the apple techs

I called Apple and talked to the apple tech that is 
in the office today and the hard disk is dead. The 
only option for recovering data is sending it to 
someone like disksavers.This would cost around 
$1500. I called Elisa and left a voicemail 
explaining this. I am now just waiting for word 
from her to send this to the apple store.

I called her yesterday asking if it was okay to 
reformat the disk or if she had data on it that 
needed to be saved.

can't boot to single user mode to run fsck

The computer will boot to network or CD but not 
HD. When I run a repair from disk utility on the 
HD I get the following error: 'Invalid B-tree node 
size'

It then says that the repair could not be completed. I'm trying to find a solution other than 
re-formatting the drive.
