We were just following up with you regarding a 
service request that we have for you.  (#36907)

Description: Can't download software updates - in 
particular Apple and Microsoft updates

We were wondering if this has been resolved for 
your or if we can still be of assistance with

I just called and left a voice mail asking for a time someone 
could come over and do this or for permission to do this when he 
isn't there. 

I would do it remotely but I don't see his computer in the scan of 
the subnet that contains HSS. If I knew his IP address I might be 
able to do it remotely as well.

Try this:

sudo dscl . -append /Groups/admin GroupMembership 
"new_user"

where "new_user" is replaced with his username. This command 
would need to be run as a local admin or as root. If you're 
running it as root you can drop the sudo at the beginning of the 
command.

Hey Richard I tried to fix this computer but I am
missing a setting somewhere. It shows him as an
administrator on the machine but It will not allow
him to do any updates on the computer.

Shaun called today and said that he is still
getting the message that his computer needs admin
rights so he can continue with the updates.

He is still not able to do his updates.

He is still having the problem even though someone
came and changed his setting to have the privilege.

This is the first time since the tech came to
visit he has had the problem.

Also the first time he has tried since someone came.

He was not an admin. He was only a faculty so He
could not install updates.

he desc-ription of the problem is not quite 
right; the issue is that I can't download 
software updates, and, in particular, I have been 
unable to download & install updates from Apple 
and from Microsoft. I was able to so this 
previously.

Shaun-can't download to upload software.

Receives message "You must enter Admin name and
password"

Doesn't allow him any access, last time he was on
the computer was back in December.
