We have resolved this issue. The problem is in
the WIndows XP image deployed on your laptop, and
it needs to be reimaged.

I can either bring a laptop with our imaging
software on it to Eugene, or you can send the
laptop up here or bring it up here for same-day
service.

Please let me know your preference. I could
conceivably come down tomorrow to re-image it.

Installed 64bit Windows 7 on identical hardware,
installed SPSS 18 and Amos 18, and Amos appears to
work without issue.

I am now inclined to believe that the image for
the E6410's is bad and needs redone.

Debbie,

I acquired an identical laptop to the one you
have, and installed the same image of XP that was
put on your system, and installed SPSS 18.0.2 and
Amos 18.0.2 and it did not work. I got a couple
of screen captures that I uploaded to SPSS
Support. I also sent a message to SPSS Support
and sent a message to SPSS Support Management that
this system would be available for their
development team to remote into and see if they
can figure out why it does not work on this
hardware platform.

Like I told you this morning, I was able to
install this software in a XP Virtual Machine in
our VMWare virtualization cluster, and it worked
without any problems. I am absolutely convinced
that it is a software defect, and it is
incompatible with the latest generation of Intel
Core i7 processors.

The only other thing I can think to do short-term
is to setup a virtualization product on your
laptop that enables you to run Amos Graphics,
otherwise we wait for a solution from SPSS.

Installed software on identical laptop and it
still does not work, uploaded screen captures of
error messages to SPSS Support, sent message to
SPSS Support, and sent message to SPSS Support
Management.

Checking with Tricia about the availability of a
Dell Latitude E6410 for me to install this
software on in order to rule out it being a
platform issue versus a need-to-rebuild the latop
Debbie has.

I have heard nothing from SPSS regarding this issue.

I would like to approach this by rebuilding this
laptop. I will see if we can get a duplicate
laptop from Tricia to test with first.

I was disappointed to hear that following the
steps outlined in Resolution 88821 did not resolve
your issue. This Resolution was an exact fit for
the symptoms that you are currently experiencing,
and I was confident that this Resolution would
contain the information necessary to fix your
problem. I escalated this issue to a colleague in
second-level Technical Support yesterday. We also
reviewed the history of your Case, including all
of the troubleshooting steps performed to date. He
is currently attempting to locate a 4-core machine
that he can use to try to replicate your issue. I
will update you as soon as I hear-back from
second-level Technical Support. Thank you.

I spent all morning, first with SPSS support, and
then with Debbie working on resolving this issue.
We got the correct authorization codes,
uninstalled/reinstalled Amos, re-ran the license
wizards for all products, and still do not get any
functionality out of the Amos program.

The symptoms are identical to an issue we
experienced installing PASW 17 & 18 on one of our
terminal servers that has 32 processors. That
required SPSS Developers to create hotfixes both
times due to errors in the code.

Debbie is going to forward the last message she
received from SPSS support to me, and I am going
to send my findings to their support agent and
insist on the developers working to debug this issue.

I am fairly certain it has something to do with
the fact that Debbie's laptop is the latest
generation multi-core Intel processor which shows
up as 4 CPUs based on my previous experience with
our 32core terminal server.

Issue appears to be a SPSS problem, specifically
that the amosgraphicsCLI.exe launches a splash
screen and creates a process that eats 52mb memory
and 25% cpu without doing anything. Additional
attempts creates more processes. It is identical
to the results of PASW 17 & 18 on TS9 because of
flaws in the code on multi-core systems. Her
laptop is a Core i7 4-core.

Hi,

I just received word that this service request
had been completed. Unfortunately, even though UCS
sent me the correct authorization codes for AMOS
software this did not result in the AMOS software
becoming functional. There is still some problem
with the graphics portions of the program not
working - and these are the 'guts' of the
software. I cannot perform any analyses with the
software without the graphics functions operational.
I have a case currently open with SPSS tech
support and will continue to pursue that - not
sure what else to do since this is software that
WOU purchased in June 16 that has not been
operational.

If you have further questions, I spoke with
Maximilian Alvarez at phone # 1-800-521-1337 today
08/31/10 .
His email is: alvarezm@us.ibm.com, for missing
values contract # 120380613, not the same contract
number as the PASW 18.0 Statistics Base.

Thank you for your help - I do need this software
in order to perform my work.

Hi ,

I need help with restoring function to my PASW
18.0 Statistics Base and AMOS 18.0 software. My
laptop was supposed to have the following
analytical software:

1. PASW 18.0 Statistical Base
2. AMOS 18.0
3. Add-on module PASW 18.0 Missing Values

When I installed the license authorization codes
for the PASW 18.0 Missing Values, it wiped out the
other two software packages that were installed on
my laptop.

I just talked with PASW 18.0 technical support
and found the following:

1. WOU UCS purchased the "stand-alone" version of
PASW 18.0 Missing Values instead of the 'add-on'
module that works in conjunction with the PASW
18.0 Statistics Base which UCS already purchased.
When I installed this Missing Values stand-alone
software, this replaced the PASW 18.0 Statistics
Base and AMOS module from my computer -
essentially uninstalling them.

SPSS/PASW can correct the situation and give us
the correct 'add-on' Missing values module instead
of the 'stand-alone' .

Please send me:

2. The current license Authorization Code for
PASW 18.0 Statistics Base that UCS has - perhaps
Brian Berkeley has this? so I can re-install the
PASW 18.00 Statistics Base to make it usable. Tech
support has sent me a new license authorization
code for the missing values add-on module that
will work with the statistics base.

3. The correct license authorization code for
AMOS that UCS purchased - since the code that
Brian sent to me is incorrect [contains only 18
characters and should contain 20 characters].

4. An SPSS/PASW purchase order number or contract
or serial number (not UCS order #) for the PASW
18.0 Statistics Base.

Each software package requires its own license
authorization code:
PASW 18.0 Statistics Base
Missing Values Add-on Module [not stand-alone]
AMOS 18.0
