This was finished on Friday. Lance took his laptop
to him. We had an issue where he selected not to
make a mobile account and clicked to never be
asked again but I found and removed the plist that
stores this option. He is now running properly.

I just installed CS 5 and am updating it now. Then
I will move over his files, update office, name
and bind the machine, and contact him.

Hi Teresa

Thanks for the update. I was told in early
December that the laptop was going to be sent to
apple store. Its puzzling to me that if that was
decided as the course of action, what was the
reason behind the month long delay.

Hi Teresa

I just wanted to know if my lap top is ready or
not. Its been over a month since I turned in my
lap top to the computing services and despite the
fact that we are in the second week of classes
my lap top has not been fixed yet.

The loaner that I got from you guys does not have
the adequate software and this is having a large
negative impact in my ability to prepare material
for my classes. If you could update me on the
status of my laptop I would appreciate it.

Richard, call Sam at 503-594-0212 regarding
laptop, or the Corvallis mac store and see if its
back, and if you can pick it up and get it rebuilt
for Foad before Winter Term starts.

Foad,

Your Macbook is going to the Applecare repair
facility, I think it is a bad hard disk, or one
that is about to go bad.

I first tried to repair the disk permissions, and
update which failed.

Then I tried an Archive and Install preserving
network and user settings, which failed.

Then I booted it to target mode, copied your data
to a different machine, and imaged it which
worked, so I did a clean install.

The install went ok, until I tried to update it to
10.5.8, and that didn't work, so I did another
clean install, and patched it with a patch
downloaded directly from Apple, and got it going,
but as I installed applications, the system got
progressively worse. The last thing I installed
was Shockwave player, which took about 15-20
minutes, when it should be done in a couple of
minutes.

It passes hardware tests, and appears initially to
not have a problem, but as you use it, it becomes
less responsive.

Hopefully we'll have it back in a week or so. It
will be ready for you when Winter term begins in
January.

Thanks,

repaired disk permissions, and updates would not
install

verified the disk, disk appears OK

called Applecare, Case id: 191201667

1st step suggested was an archive and reinstall of
the OS, if that fails, to boot off 2nd disk from
OS set, and run apple hardware test (hold D while
booting off 2nd DVD).

Lastly, wipe and reinstall, and if that fails to
contact AppleCare again at 800-800-2775 option 3

His computer is crashing and he needs to get
grading done. When it boots up and he opens the
finder, it takes 5 minutes to open, and if he
tries to open an application the computer crashes
and won't do anything. WOU# 20080172[Edit Inv]. He will be
campus the whole day today.
