Lori,
I have taken a look at the scanner that is located
in the copy center. The scanner is out of
warranty, so we would be unable to replace any
parts on the scanner. When I was looking at the
scanner the top was staying in place. When using
the scanner they would need to be careful not to
knock the top off. Attached are a couple of images
that I scanned while looking at it.

Looked at the scanner and did several scans to
make sure it was working. The cover is staying in
place and the images look fine.

Scanner in the Copy Center. The white backing has
broken off.  Scanner works but quality is poor.
