Computer was upgraded to Windows 7 and SPSS with
missing values was installed. Transferred all
locally saved files/folders back over to computer.
Tested many documents (SPSS, PPT, Excel, Word) to
make sure everything would open and work properly.

Debroah,

Tuesday should work out. I will update the task and assign it to
Lori so she can begin getting the software ready for when she
comes down next week. Also, I checked with Tricia and we do
not have a license for the MPlus statistical analysis software. She
said, if you were interested, you could contact Cindi Mafit for
purchasing the software.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope everything
goes smoothly upgrading your software.

Tuesday - the sooner the better for me. I am willing to try to
upgrade this computer but am not convinced that a four year old
computer can manage the heavy duty processing demands from
statiatical analysis. Does WOU /TRI have a site license for MPlus
statistical analysis software? This is a powerful program that
does lingitudinal modeling and structural equation modeling
which can be done in conjunction with SPSS data sets. This will
require a powerful and speedy processor.
Let me know about Tuesday -if that works and also the status of
MPlus software licenses. I know the U of O uses this software in
many research shops.
Thank you,
Debbie

Debroah,

Great! I will let Lori and Tricia know so that they can begin
getting the software ready.
Lori is free Tuesday through Friday next week. Which one of
those days would works best for you?
I know your computer is a few years old, but with the hardware
specs that you have it shouldn't be running as slow as it is. When
we upgrade your OS to Windows 7, it will wipe everything on
your hard drive and basically give it a fresh start. At that point,
the machine should run a lot more snappy. If, even after your
laptop has been re-imaged, it is still running slowly, then we
could look at getting you a newer machine. I think the slowness
is coming from an older bogged down OS though.
With all that being said, the only thing you should make sure you
do, before Lori comes down to perform the upgrade, is move
your files onto your H: drive. This is where you should be saving
things already. However, I know for convenience it is sometimes
easier to save files to your desktop or locally. When they come to
do the upgrade though if it's not on your H: drive it will not be
recoverable. Also, Lori can help you make sure you've saved
everything correctly onto your H: drive when she gets there.
I am going to cc Lori and Tricia on this email so they both know
what is needed for next week and if you needed to contact either
of them you can.

Hi Andrew,

I will be in Seattle Tuesday through Friday this week (with my
laptop) so next week sometime would be better.
I would like to get the most recent version of SPSS /PASW
available and would like to upgrade to the most recent Windows
software available as well.
yes my computer is extremely slow.
Please let me know what I need to do before Lori comes to work
with the laptop. Do I need to completely back up and wipe the
hard drive ?
Let me know and I will do that.
I'm willing to try this to update the laptop. However, it is now 4
years old (dated 2009) and I'm wondering if the technology is
simply outdated.
Thanks

Hi Deborah,

I need some additional information regarding service request
#49535

Description: Add Missing values Analysis software; dell laptop is
slow

I was wondering if your machine was still running slow? Your
computer is able to upgrade to Windows 7 so I would
recommend us upgrading your operating system. That would
wipe your machine and make it run more efficiently on a new OS.
Also, in reference to the SPSS Missing Values software: we can
upgrade that as well. I was wondering what version of SPSS you
wanted? Our records show you have version 18. The latest is
version 21. However, you can get versions 19 or 20, if you need
those versions specifically.

Both of these upgrades would require us to make a trip down to
your office though. Upgrading the OS is something we can not
do remotely, and upgrading SPSS and the Missing Values
Analysis software can be tricky as well. Lori would be the one
that would make the trip down there for the upgrades. She said
that she will not be available Tuesday or Wednesday of this week,
but she will most likely be available Thursday or Friday if one of
those days works for you? If this week doesn't work out, Lori is
free all next week as well. Please let me know which days work
best for you.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me or call
our help desk at 503-838-8925.

Thanks,
- Andrew Gandara

2. The Dell Latitude E6410 I am using is no
longer functional for me analytical computing
needs. It is slow, slow slow to start up and slow
to process, freezes at critical times, and has
Windows XP from 2002! My director, Dr. Ann Glang,
asked me to contact UCS about my computer needs
since my needs for computing were specialized.
Colleagues who do similar work at Oregon Research
Institute and the University of Oregon,
recommended a PC that will meet my processing
needs. Please review the attached description and
advise on next steps. Funds are already build into
the two projects I am doing analysis for now -
and the need is urgent. Please see attached.

Thanks so much for your help - even writing this
email takes too long - since I type and then wait
for the letters in a long sentence to appear many
seconds later.

Perhaps I should do task #2 before task #1? Except
I need the Missing Values module now!

Sincerely,
 Debbie Ettel, PhD

Hi,
I am a methodologist with WOU's Teaching Research
Institute Center on Brain Injury Research &
Training in Eugene. I have two service requests:

1. In 2010 we purchased a PASW module for Missing
Values Analysis software that works with my PASW
18 analytic software. This worked fine - then when
AMOS software was added to my PASW 18, the Missing
Values Analysis software had to be removed - some
kind of conflict.
I need the Missing Values Analysis software on my
computer, and we have a license I believe, which
means it must be available to UCS. It may even be
on the server (I:) somewhere which I cannot locate.
 Here is the documentation:

PASW 18.0 MVA module:
UCS Order#5059: no install just needed
registering/authorizing with info below
Electronic software delivery. one user.Serial #
15630015 License Type: SC Auth Code:
7276cfcaa023e4653a7a qty: 1

This is the service order and this is what was
installed - which is not longer installed.
Please contact me at your convenience on my cell
phone because I am often away from my office or
desk 541-221-8380.
Thank you!
