Solve the speaker problem by checking the
configuration status on the machine. Now it works
fine.

red X through speaker icon and says nothing is
connected. They have tried restarting the computer
as well.  They can't get any sound out of the
computer from the speaker bar, but bar lights up
like there is power to it.
