Left Debbie a voicemail letting her know
everything was switched back over to SA-Sully for
her main printer. Test prints were successful.

Went over and ran a configuration page. Printer has been
successfully renamed. Added it to all of the computers in the office
and ran test pages. Everything works.

Name change is finished on network side. Printer
is now set up on print server. Change takes about
an hour to take effect. Will go over soon to turn
on printer and connect for a test print.

Hi Debbie,
Wonderful! Thank you! Please keep in mind, your
printer will most likely be down a few days, but
we will do our best to get that done as quickly as
possible. I will take Garfield down Tuesday
morning to start that transition.
Lori

Lori:
Tuesday is perfect to do this. We have a
candidate for director of SHCC on campus that will
be keeping us busy elsewhere. If you all have to
reschedule, let me know.
Thank you,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
We can make that change for you. I am available
to start that process next Tuesday. Please let me
know if Tuesday will work for you and your office
staff to take that printer offline. If not, we
can shoot for another day. If it works, please
let everyone know in the office that the printer
will no longer be working starting Tuesday and I
will get that process started for you. I will
contact you once again when we have finished
everything and we will be coming back over to make
sure everything has gone into effect and printing
is successful.
Thanks,
Lori

Lori:
Thank you for this email. I do appreciate it and
I get the driver/server/setup stuff. We did not
expect the new printer so soon -- the receipt
today was a wonderful surprise.
I do want this new printer's name changed -- when
appropriate and safe and good -- back to Sully;
please, please. We are the users and we want the
joy of the name of the printer. Sully is the
colorful member of the Office of the Vice
President for Student Affairs, we paid for the
printer, we use the printer.
I'm sorry, we have to have Sully return to us.
We don't care if the return of Sully happens in
one week or two -- we do understand and respect
the tech stuff. I know this is a silly thing, but
Garfield won't do on a permanent basis.
Again, thank you for the email or for the chance
to keep the joy.
Debbie

Printer was delivered and set up. Test prints
were successful. Techs mentioned that Deborah was
unhappy with the name SA-Garfield and wanted to
keep the printer SA-Sully which was the name of
the printer this new one replaced. Sent Deborah
an email to see if she wanted changes made.

Hello,

It was brought to my attention this morning after
delivering your new printer that you were wanting
the printer name to remain the same.
Unfortunately, when we keep printer names the
same, we have to first take down the original
printer (take it off the network) and work on
setting up, testing, and inventorying the new
printer - which can take quite a chunk of time.
To get you the new printer in the shortest amount
of time possible, we gave the printer a new name.

If you would like, we can change the name of your
new printer back to Sully, however, we will need
to take it off the network to be able to provide
any changes. After taking it off the network, we
will need to change the Mac address associated
with the old printer to this new mac address and
make sure it is being recognized by our DHCP
server which provides us with the IP addresses for
your building. We also need to perform the name
change and change all the drivers on the print
server over to your new make/model of printer as
they will be different. We also need to delete
the old printer from your machines and add the
changed versions as the drivers will then have
changed in order for printing to be successful.
We will need to preform tests to make sure that
all changes have taken place and printing is
successful. As multiple people are involved in
this process, the change could take up to a week.
The process can happen, however, it unfortunately
is not a process that can happen immediately and
printing will not be able to take place to that
printer. Please let me know if you would like to
keep the new name or have things changed back to
the Sully name.

I apologize for any inconvenience this would cause.

Thank you,
Lori
