Closing this task. Replacement computer, WOU #
20100678[Edit Inv], delivered to Rip on 8/15/2013. New
machine will be placed into service when Mike Ross
gets back from vacation, as specialized software
needs to be installed. Old machine will remain in
service until that time.

Mike Ross, Dale Goodell, and the Rec-Track representative are upgrading the HWC computers to Windows 7
which removed the problem with the screens. However, the previous issue with the amber blinking 3 and 4
lights is now back. It occasionally works, but it doesn't work the majority of the time. Replacing the power
supply, CMOS battery, and RAM did not solve the problem. It looks like we've narrowed it down to
motherboard at this point. Lori Burgeson has warranteed the motherboard and it should arrive Thursday.

Instead of placing this computer back at the front desk, Mike Ross decided to take a computer from the
computer station behind the front desk to use for the front desk Rec-Track system. The broken one that I'm
working on will fill that empty slot at the computer station once the motherboard has been replaced.

Once the motherboard has been replaced, we are to bring it back to the computer station but not plug it in.

****This is an outgoing email****
Rip,

Sorry I haven't contacted you in a while. I've been talking with
Dale Goodell and some of the other people in our department
regarding what to do to resolve your issue with the front desk
computer and we've come to the conclusion that we have two
options.

The first is to re-image the computer and re-setup Rec Track
and your other specialized software. Unfortunately, no one really
knows how the Health and Wellness Center computers were set
up because the people that originally did it are no longer
working for the university. There's no telling how long this might
take us.

The second is to wait until August. Dale tells me that some Rec
Track people are coming out for three days in August to
determine whether or not the computers in the HWC can be
upgraded to Windows 7 and help facilitate in that if the
computers are eligible. If we can upgrade them (which is looking
to be very likely), we can resolve the issue then. In our opinion,
this is the better of the two options.

Let me know what you would like to do.

Thank you,

Jared Petersen

Had a conversation with Dale about this whole
ordeal and he recommended that I see if the HWC
can hold off a bit longer on getting this computer
up and running. The computers at the front desk
are likely going to be upgraded to Windows 7 in
August, so it would be better to just wait until
then, especially since no one around here knows
how to set up any of the specialized software that
the HWC is running (particularly Rec Track).

Tried a few other things, specifically going into safe mode and
deleting files. I was able to delete the two folders I was having
issues with before but it didn't make a difference.

I'm stuck.

Went over, the display settings on ATI Catalyst Control Center wasn't saving the duplicate display settings they needed. Tried creating an
individual profile but it failed to start up with the system - you had to manually activate it. This wasn't an acceptable solution.

Online forums indicated that many others had this issue but very few successes in solving it. A common suggestion was to uninstall and
reinstall the software. I uninstalled it but when I went to install it, it gave me an "install packaged failed to install" error message. I tried
different versions of it and the display drivers that accompany from both Dell and AMD with Laven but we weren't able to get it to work.

We thought that the reason that it wasn't installing was due to the fact that the program still thought it was installed (it did still have files in
the Program Files folder). We ran Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner and managed to delete quite a few of the items except for a few. We still are
unable to delete those.

We found that once the display drivers and Catalyst Control Center were uninstalled, the monitors were duplicating the display as desired.
We were just going to leave it as is since the original problem was solved, but unfortunately, another was created. The resolution is too low
(1460? X ???) to display the program the HWC uses to let people through the security gate. I think we absolutely need the Catalyst Control
Center in order to get the machine to function as desired, but we still can't install the darn thing.

On another note, the gate software on this computer is having issues as well now, so Rip Horsey is going to call them around 1:15 PM today
to see if they can get that working. I will rejoin them then to see if we can get both issues resolved.

Work order 50989 extension

When the battery was replaced on the center access
computer at the HWC it changed some of the monitor
settings. On July 9, 2013, UCS techs did come
over and clone the monitors, except every time the
computer is shut off the "clone" function is
disabled. Please have a tech swing by and
re-establish the custom request as normal for the
monitor system. Thanks. If it can be done
through email/phone that is not problem let me know.

The 3 & 4 diag lights are blinking amber. The
computer is not powering on and the button in the
back of the PSU did not power on the computer.
Replaced the power supply and it fired right up.
Warrantying the old power supply.

Computer 20100677[Edit Inv] has changed from blue power
color to orange power color again. This is the
main access computer for the Health and Wellness
Center. We either need to have the battery power
replaced again or another computer installed with
Windows XP and all the access program information
(RecTrac, phidget, IP/Admin, etc). Please let me
know an eta regarding repairs thank you.
