Marshall,

Jared and Craig came to me asking about SR#52809.
We went to Michael Ellis and Bill Kernan to ask
them if this software could be having issues with
our network. Michael wanted me to pass this
information on to you. This issue has to be with
Blumen itself. We will be closing this ticket, if
you have any further questions please free contact
Michael Ellis at 503-838-8629.

Thank you,
Megan

We have a 10Gb fiber backbone.
We have 2Gb-20Gb fiber to each building.
Utilization is minimal.

This is a not a network issue.

We have many hosted systems that campus users
utilize hourly (including Google Apps) -- with
zero issues.

Michael

network. He has talked to Blumen and ready for
you to come back.

Anytime today he is available.

Had Marshall show me what was going, on the receptionist
computer up front the lag was fairly negligible, however looking
at Sheree Solario's computer it was very severe and Blumen
stopped responding at a couple points.

We had a resource monitor open while they were running the
program, and while they were saving a file there was not
noticeable increase in memory or cpu usage, definitely not
enough to crash the program or cause lag that lasts for minutes.
The network meter appeared to go up significantly.

Marshall contacted Blumen and requested help setting up a local
instance of the database on one of the computers to see if the
network was in fact causing the issue. I also suggested that we
can try to upgrade the memory on the machines to see if that
makes a noticeable difference. We may also try to set it up on a
fresh image to see how it preforms then.

Marshall will likely call us when he hears from Blumen about
setting up the local server.

Hey Paul, could you see if this is a network
connection/port problem? Although, it is on
multiple computers.

The lag occurs mostly when they're trying to save
a file/entry (to the i:drive) . It has been
happening since October (installed September).

With Firefox, Chrome, And Blumen open, 70% of
memory is in use. The largest memory users (in
processes window) are the web browsers and SpyBot.
Blumen isn't using very much ( ~8,000K)

Craig, this is clearly a desktop issue. I would
check the systems and make sure that they have
enough memory to load the database and are not
swapping. This can't be a server issues cause I
say so!!! :)

This problem involves the Blumen Student Database
software installed on computers in the SEP Program
office.

Blumen runs a client version on each workstation
which communicates with a main database server
currently stored on the I-Drive. We are
experiencing a significant wait as certain
commands process. These waits are often only a
few seconds, but can consistently last more than 1
minute at times. As each student entry can
involve several of these waits, that time adds up
quickly and can make a 5 minute entry become a 15
minute entry.

I have contacted the vendor support and they have
a process by which we can run the server on a
local machine, and then run the same process over
the network to see the inpact the network is
having on wait times.

I¿d like to work with someone to try to resolve
this issue. This may involve store our database
on a faster server, or otherwise optimizing our
connection to the database.

Please coordinate with Marshall Guthrie.

Thanks,

Marshall
