****This is an email****
Malia,

I believe that I just ran into you when we were
removing the printer. I just wanted to forward you
the email that I sent Barbara. Please let me know
if there are any questions. I'm going to close the
original ticket that was open. Once we get a
request for a new printer I will make sure that we
get it installed as soon as we receive it.

Thanks!

Megan,

I've checked with the HPE Division and they no
longer use that printer, so Athletics would be
making the decisions regarding replacement and
providing the necessary funding. If Athletics
chooses to replace it with another networked
printer, none of the HPE employees should have
access to it. If you need assistance with which
users are HPE and should not have access, Diana
McAlpine (the support person in the division)
should be able to assist with that.

Thank you for checking,

Tiffany

Barbara and Tiffany,

We got a service request from Malia Shoji saying
that the printer on the second floor of NPE keeps
printing code. W#20070933[Edit Inv] it is an HP Laserjet
4350dtn.

We have updated the firmware on the printer which
helped for a week and then the printer went back
to printing code. We have tried connecting to the
printer with multiple drivers/different documents
but it continues to print code. So I called my
printer tech that helps me with all the lab
printers. He helped me figure out that the printer
is preforming a "core dump" which basically it
means the the printer can no longer read the print
driver like it should.

I've spoken with Tiffany about the printer on the
second floor of NPE. I know that this printer is
shared between both of your departments so I
wanted both of you to be aware that this printer
needs replaced. This printer was originally
purchased when Health/PE and athletics were
combined as a department which is no longer the
case. Once the ownership is figured out then a
purchase request for a new printer will be needed.
Please log into www.wou.edu/purchaserequest and
fill out a price or purchase request so we can get
everyone back up and running.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

After trying to narrow down which computer in the Athletic
Department was printing and corrupting the data on the printer,
Lori and Megan determined that the printer should be replaced.

Megan has asked for a higher level point of contact for replacing
the printer. I contacted the original POC and she indicated that
Barbara Dearing (daring@wou.edu 88094) is final sign off for new
hardware.

When they go to print it will only print out
sheets with codes on it. They also started to
notice that when they try to print it will print
every white sheet of paper it has in it.

Try this:
Unplug the network from both the machine and jack.
Connect locally to the printer. Download the PS
drivers first and try printing. Then delete those
drivers and try the PCL 5 driver and PCL 6 driver
after deleting the 5 driver. How is printing
then?

If printing looks good from .doc, .xlsx, .pdf, try
the patch cable again. Restart the machine and
make sure it's pulling correct IP. Try connecting
thru the print server and printing the same types
of files. What is the result?

Tried plugging my laptop directly into the printer, it recognized
it but couldn't print anything. Also tried to print from Malia and
Brad's computers, but if they did print they looked identical to
the pages of nonsense that came out of the printer. Reinstalling
drivers on there machines didn't do anything.

Printer is printing out what appears to be ascii information for a job
that never completed. It will print 15 to 20 pages, stop for a brief
time, then start printing what seems like the same job again. These
appear to be showing up from nowhere, talked to Lori and she said
there was nothing in the queue, and there are no jobs on the
printer.

Found this https://fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/47274 and
tried what we could, like replacing the network cable, but it didn't
change anything.

It seems like it is trying to print an Adobe graphics file, but I cannot
figure out where it is coming from, or how to stop it.

When people send anything to this printer the
print jobs are just printing a bunch of code.
They tried restarting the printer as well but it
still seems to be printing some kind of code.
Printer is upstairs in NPE.
