Replacement heat sink was installed, and the noise
was gone. Returned computer to DFSC 101 and emailed
Amy to let her know the problem was resolved.

Determined that the bad noises were a product of a
failing fan attached to the heat sink; brought the
computer back to the office. Lori is requesting
replacement parts from Dell, which should arrive
within 48 hours.

****This is an email****
Hello,

We have a desktop computer in DFSC 101 (Station
12, back left corner of room) that is producing a
grinding noise (fan? hard drive?). Its bar code
number is: 20120928[Edit Inv].

Would someone be willing to come over sometime and
take a look at it? There is no rush as the
computer is function, although annoying in sounds
produced.

Thank you,

Amy
