today megan gave a computer for me to trouble shoot. saying
the at the computer wouldn't power up i took the following steps

plugged in computer as normal: the computer had a blinking
amber power button light. also had enough power to run the
fans but nothing else.

switched the power cable: same things happened.

was unable to get power to the machine with nothing plugged in
besides the power cord(thinking there was power but the other
I/O devices were taking the power) same result as before.

swapped PSU from working computer of the same model: this
switch worked and the computer was fully functional.
