I started the apple diagnostic test on the Mac
which should take about an hour but he had to
leave early. So, I mentioned he could allow the
diagnostic to complete the process ; just to
ensure we don't have any hardware problem.I'll
follow with him next week(he has my e-mail)-
because he works from home on Fridays.

Hello,

Thank you for the quick reply. I did upgrade to
Mavericks from Mountain Lion about 1 month ago.
Since I use Xcode to develop mobile apps, I
regularly need to upgrade the OS on my machine
since Xcode cannot upgrade occasionally until you
upgrade the OS.

Anyway, my WOU# is 20110553[Edit Inv]. I'm usually on
campus Tues, Wed, Thurs over in Todd 249. I'm
pretty packed today but I'm pretty open next week.

Thanks again!

Jeff

Hello,

For about the past week my MacBook Pro has
intermittently (about once an hour) heated up, fan
running like crazy, programs lock up, system slows
to a crawl. Today I finally looked up the process
that was causing this and it turns out that Sophos
is consuming about 95% of system resources during
these incidents. After poking around the web for a
bit, I found the following forum thread...

http://openforum.sophos.com/t5/Sophos-Anti-Virus-for-Mac-Home/SophosScanD-process-consuming-up-to-95-CPU/td-p/18785/page/7

Seems a lot of Mac users are experiencing the same
problem. I did upgrade to Mavericks about 1 month
ago - not sure I see a correlation with this
problem but it may be a factor.

Have you guys experienced this issue with other
Mac users on campus and, if so, what is a proposed
solutions? Sophos is updated to the latest
version on my machine, by the way.

Thanks!
