Cheri,

I received an SRD request (57160) about 
automatically setting the default printer for the 
VDI thin clients across from the cashiers office 
in the Admin building.  Unfortunately the way VDI 
thin clients are structured and created they do 
not know their physical location so you can not 
set a default printer on them.  This means that 
the VDI clients in the Labs , Library, and the 
Admin building are identical, and unaware of what 
building they are in.  Setting a default printer 
on one would set it for all VDI clients on 
campus.  So that means all of the VDI clients 
would be pointing to the printer in the Admin 
building.  Because of this the VDI clients are 
setup so that students would be required to 
select the printer they want every time.  This 
greatly reduces the number of unwanted printouts 
sent to the wrong locations.  

We are actively researching for a way to 
accomplish this but currently there is no ETA 
available.

response.  Currently, vdi's are not set up for
default printers.

So Cheri called in to let us know that the 
computer bank on the left-hand side when you 
walk into the admin building is not registering 
the printers properly. Apparently students need 
to manually input the printer name in the 
hallway there every time they need to use it, 
and the Cashiers office is wondering if it is 
possible to have it automatically come up when 
students need to print to it. Her callback 
number is 88291.
