I have put the disc media for her order of Endote
X7 (order#9450) on the laptop in OUTBOX she can
keep the media as I have it recorded on
T:\Endnote\ENDNOTEX7 and have also made a disc
copy for file ...This is an upgrade so I have made
note of the old S# and Product key on T:DRIVE as
it will ask for it in the install process

5. I will still need all of the applications to which I am entitled and purchased with this computer, most
especially:
a. Microsoft Office for Mac (I have 2011, but would be fine with an upgrade). Cost for upgrade?
b. Parallels Desktop (very important!)—MUST upgrade to a later version (compatible with El Capitan) I can
put in a purchase order for this if needed.
c. Microsoft Windows Professional on the Parallels desktop
d. Dreamweaver (although I must admit I now use Wordpress and don’t use it much, so not critical)

6. Please make sure I have administrative access on both the Mac side and the PC side of the computer, as I
will be loading “Primer-e”, purchased via a grant, to the PC side.

Do let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be delivering my computer to you this afternoon. Obviously,
I’d like my computer back as soon as possible (once I get it to you:-), but I’ll be fine with the loaner in
the short term. Do provide a time estimate if you can.

Thanks again for all of your hard work and patience with me as I think through this process.

Dear Megan/UCS team,

IMPORTANT: NEW INSTRUCTIONS FOR Macbook Pro 20130550[Edit Inv] “rebuild”. PLEASE DISREGARD ALL PREVIOUS
INSTRUCTIONS. (I will be delivering it back to you this afternoon.)

First, thanks for your patience as I work through my thinking about my computer rebuild. After much
thought, as well as time to thoroughly backing up everything in triplicate and triple checking, I have
decided that “starting fresh” is the best idea. Accordingly, I have altered my thinking.

1. I have decided to be daring and upgrade as high as possible (up to El Capitan) rather than Mavericks.
All of my current software should work EXCEPT the Parallels 9 desktop. Accordingly, I need to upgrade to
Parallels 11 or 12 with this rebuild. I can do a new purchase if necessary.

2. Do NOT migrate my existing files to the new OS. Basically, pretend I’m new…

3. Do NOT partition into multiple users on the Mac side as I previously did—you just need to set up the
“habermk” login.

4. DO add all printers that were originally included.

Megan,

EMERGENCY--DO NOT WIPE MY COMPUTER YET!!! I
just discovered a major problem. My iPhoto
Library (from my back-up disk) will not open in
Yosemite, and it is likely not to open in
Mavericks. I have a rather old version of
iPhoto. I need to use my computer to export
and back all of it up as jpeg files so I do not
lose them! My photos are super important to
me, and losing them would be devastating.
There's the back up of the iPhoto library, but
unfortunately, there is a flaw in the Mountain
Lion time-machine. It stopped backing up some
key files, including making the i-photo back-
ups. (This is an actual software flaw--I read
about it in the Apple Support pages--not an
issue with my particular back-up drive.)

If you've already wiped it, well...there's got
to be a way to somehow get an older version of
iPhoto, open my library, and recover my photos,
but I'd rather not take the chance.

I will stop by and pick up my computer to do
this, and then return it back it you ASAP. I
won't be able to get over there until just
before 1 PM.

Thanks

Megan, another piece of the puzzle may be the
"Network Drive Unavailable" message I've been
getting in my office (with a hard link, even).
I can still access my "groupj" and "habermk"
drives fine, so that is a bit weird. But maybe
I couldn't connect with the drives that have
Sophos and that was the root cause of the
Sophos update issues. Hopefully, all can be
resolved!

Thanks,

Karen

Megan,

That would be perfect. I'm in the Natural
Sciences Building, NS 001 (in the basement).

Thanks so much for getting on this so quickly!

Also, if it is pretty quick to get it set up
now, I am also available anytime from now until
2 PM. That is actually a better time-frame
than 4:30, so if that would work, let me know.
Otherwise, I'll plan on 4:30.

Thanks!

Dear UCS/Megan,

I'm back on campus and my Sophos is not
updating. When I restart my Mac (#20130550),
it starts with a big X through the Sophos icon.
Then i select "update now". The update fails
and Sophos shuts itself off like a deactivated
Borg drone.

It is posslbe that the info in "Preferences"
for updated is incorrect, as I did screw around
with that this summer. But I reset it back to
default, and it shows the two WOU servers. It
is also possible that it no longer functions
with my outdated browser (Mountain Lion), which
I was thinking of switching to Mavericks. (If
I go to a higher OS, some of my software won't
run.)

Perhaps it is time for a complete upgrade? At
the very least, I'd like to resolve this issue.
Alas, I have much work to do on my computer.

What is my best/most expedient course of
action, given that I really can't go computer-
less for any length of time, I could work on a
loaner machine, though, as I have everything
backed up.

Thanks,

Karen
