I think this self resolved, It was working for me 
once I went down there.  I tested the volume 
control as well from the headphones and everything 
worked.

Macbook air laptop and the audio is not working
whenever she tries to put in headphones. Will need
to bring headphones to test with computer because
she does not currently have any with her.
