After troubleshooting this and not really 
getting information out of it I called Epson. 
They confirmed it is a hardware failure.

Called Crystal to let her know this. She is 
going to put in a purchase request for a new 
scanner.

The scanner is stuck initializing. She has tried
restarting, and troubleshooting.
