The issue was with Sophos.  I tried PRAM and 
SCM resets, Disk first aid but nothing worked.  
I removed the Sophos apps from the local HD and 
the computer booted up to the logging screens.  
I was able then to put the apps back on the 
computer and updated Sophos.  I rebooted 
several time to confirm it was still able to 
boot properly.

Gave him Loaner# 20120331[Edit Inv] and I put this in the 
loaner program on Portal

After Sophos install mac will not boot up. Load 
bar gets about half way.
