I ran a fix-it from Self service that clears 
system caches and then did a pram reset.  Things 
were running faster so she was going to test and 
get back to us.

She called SRD and said that her display problems 
are gone but everything (word, etc) are taking 
longer than 5 min to open. She said it has never 
been this slow before.

Hello Brighton,

I am not on campus today since I teach 
tomorrow.  The good news is that after cycling 
the computer three times, it started 
functioning correctly.  The problem seems to 
happen when I shut the computer down and 
restart it, so I am going to keep it plugged in 
except when traveling to and from campus.  

I will bring it by Monday to exchange it for a 
loner.  Hopefully Apple can fix the problem.

Her screen is still having issues after the hard 
drive swap of her old machine. It shows up all 
colorful and she is unable to use it. She will 
need a loaner in the mean time
